The Four Noble Truths - Lesson, A Level RE

The second lesson I teach in Year 1 Buddhism content. Introduces students to the story of the Buddha’s search for the end of suffering, including his period of self mortification, and an explanation of the process of him gaining enlightenment. Then considers the doctrines of the first sermon. Also introduces the question of whether Buddhism is a pessimistic religion. Can be adapted to other specs, but I planned this with AQA in mind.

This is a full unit of work with powerpoints, curriculum plan and revision homeworks provided by flip and fetching from a knowledge organiser. There is a planned assessment within the folder too. Please note that the lessons do utilise the new AQA GCSE 9-1 textbook, and any teacher purchasing this resource will need a copy of it. Religions covered are Christianity and Islam, and it would be possible to adapt this to different specs.

KS3 Humanities Work Booklet: Evaluation Skills (Christmas Theme)

(0)
This work booklet was designed to be completed over a period of 5 weeks to help Humanities students draw on Geographical skills, Historical skills and Religious Criticism to evaluate the statement “Celebrating Christmas should be compulsory in the UK.” We invited students to attend a 1 hour after school session, however it could also work in a KS3 humanities lesson setting for Autumn term 2. It also makes nice cover work/homework.

13 Lesson Series: Year 9 RE Introduction to Christianity (GCSE preparation)

This unit of work has been created to offer and introduction and context for the new RE GCSE, and thus is assessed in the style of GCSE assessments. However, it provides a more creative and in depth look at Christian beliefs and practices that is suitable for a Year 9/high ability KS3 group. There is a creative formative assessment (writing a modern day parable) to reflect this, as well as a GCSE style summative assessment with marks scheme. This unit is fully resourced, but please note there are some activities that use the new AQA GCSE 9-1 text book, and some activities that use the Hodder Education Christianity Religious Studies A text book. However, the unit can be taught without these activities. Credit to free resources from RE Today in lesson 1-3, and an excellent free Tes resource on Pilgrimage (apologies, cannot find name of seller, but this is work that was shared on Tes previously).

13 Lesson Series: AQA GCSE RE Christian Beliefs (RE A 8062)

A series of 13 lessons with curriculum plan and knowledge organiser for revision homeworks. Key content for Unit 1, Christian Beliefs, suitable for AQA spec but would also be adaptable to other exam boards. Whilst most resources are provided, please note that these lessons do utilise both the approved AQA GCSE 9-1 textbook, and the new Hodder Education Religious Studies A Christianity text book, so people teaching these lessons as they are will need access to both of these books for some activities.
